What to Wear.

I love helping clients plan their outfits for their session. I really do! But sometimes it is just hard for me to explain and better to show you what would look nice together. In general, I have three rules of thumb:

One: Don’t match. It is best to coordinate with similar colors. I typically start with one outfit for my children that I know I want her to wear, then I build off of that grabbing colors from her outfit that will go with everyone else.

Two: Please don’t wear all white. I know this sounds blunt, but gone are the days of all white and jeans or khakis. I am sorry but I am just being honest. It is boring in my opinion. Of course, I can’t stop you from wearing that if that is what you want, but I really am not a fan of all white shirts. They photograph very bright and wash people out. Go for some color! I love bright, bold colors and fun patterns on children. Layering is great, too! Please avoid shirts with big logos on them.

Three: Be yourself! You want your portraits to represent you, and your family. If your child has something special they carry around all the time, bring it with you! When you look back at your family portraits years from now, you are going to want to look like your remember yourself in your mind, not someone who “dressed for the occasion”.

I am excited that I will be featuring a “what to wear” column on my blog each month with great ideas for family sessions. This will be so helpful when planning your wardrobe selection. In addition to having the column to look at each month for inspiration, I love to send clients links to things I see online that I think would look nice for their session. We can even text pictures back and forth while you are shopping for your session! Please feel free to ask anytime for help with clothing selections!

Hi, my name is Alyson Fontenot. My husband is deploying to Afghanistan in February, so we’re looking to get pre-deployment pictures done in December when he comes home to Charlotteaville for leave. I don’t have a date or anything yet, but I was wondering if you were already booked for much of December?
